"Nourished Roots":
After the payment is processed, I will reach out to you within 48 business hours with instructions for obtaining and sending your hair sample to the lab. I will also provide you with a link to sign-up with Nutri-Q so you can begin the process of filling out the Initial Interview Questionnaire, Nutrition Assessment Questionnaire, and Food and Mood Journal.
Once the hair sample has been sent in, it typically takes the lab 2 weeks to get the results back to me. If you have completed all of the forms on Nutri-Q and I have your test results back, I will email you a link to schedule an appointment with me to go over your results.

After the payment is processed, I will reach out to you within 48 hours with instructions on receiving your GI-MAP and/or OAT kit in the mail. I will also provide you with a link to sign-up with Nutri-Q so you can begin the process of filling out the Initial Interview Questionnaire, Nutrition Assessment Questionnaire, and Food and Mood Journal.

The Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP) is an innovative clinical tool that measures gastrointestinal microbiota DNA from a single stool sample with state of the art, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology.
A GI-MAP can give insight into viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic pathogens. Additionally, the GI-MAP offers insight into levels of good bacteria, gluten sensitivity, inflammatory factors, immune function, antibiotic resistance genes, as well as digestive function.
This test is ideal for anyone struggling with digestive distress and/or a chronic illness. The GI-MAP is able to assess the presence of pathogens associated with common autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides a comprehensive nutritional and metabolic snapshot of an individual’s overall health. The test measures 76 organic acids from one easy to collect urine sample.
The OAT assists in evaluating: yeast, mold, and clostridia overgrowth, fatty acid metabolism, oxalate levels, antioxidant deficiencies, nutritional deficiencies, neurotransmitter levels, mitochondrial health, and more.
The OAT is useful for anyone looking to discover root causes behind their chronic illness or mystery symptoms.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is a soft tissue mineral biopsy that provides a reading of the mineral deposition in the cells and interstitial spaces of the hair over a 2-3 month period.
Minerals are the spark plugs of life. They act as co-factors for thousands of enzyme reactions in the body and are needed for us to perform essential biological processes. Due to the synergistic and antagonistic relationships between various minerals, heavy metals, and vitamins, even mild imbalances can lead to symptoms and contribute to long-term health conditions. Additionally, mineral imbalances not only directly cause health conditions, but health conditions and states of stress can also affect mineral loss and dysregulation. By viewing the results holistically in conjunction with the information gathered from your Nutri-Q data and consultation, I am able to evaluate potential root causes and how to go about re-balancing.
Metabolic rate, stage of stress and stress levels, adrenal and thyroid glandular activity, carbohydrate tolerance, detoxification capacity, immune system health, overall cellular vitality, ideal macronutrient ratios, and more! That being said, please note that HTMA is not a diagnostic test.
"HTMA shows how the body's energy system is out of balance and how to use nutrition and diet to correct it. Once the body's energy and stamina are restored, it can heal other problems on its own." - Edward Gogek, M.D.
ICP Mass Spectrometry is widely recognized by the government and private agencies as the leading analytical method for mineral and heavy metal analysis. The recommendations based on the results are only as accurate as the person who is interpreting them. The results must be viewed as a whole, not individually. Results must also come from a reputable lab that does not wash the hair sample which can skew results. I use Trace Elements Lab for this reason.
Hair testing allows us to get a window into long-term health patterns (typically 3 months) versus a snapshot in time with bloodwork. Additionally, HTMA allows us to identify potential imbalances years in advance before they begin to affect blood markers. This is because the body works hard to keep the blood in tight ranges, so we start seeing imbalances at the tissue level first. Ultimately, blood tests and hair tests are both valuable and complement each other well, allowing us to get a more holistic picture of what's happening in the body.
The lab requires the hair weigh at least 125 mg (0.125 g) and this generally comes out to 1 teaspoon.
The hair sample is trimmed to only include 1 inch from the root while the remainder of the hair is discarded (the hair closest to the root allows us to see the most recent data). Please note that the hair is collected from various locations on the back of the skull and therefore any hair loss is typically not noticeable. We see the best results when someone helps you collect your hair sample versus trying to collect it on your own!
Hair should be free of dye, bleach, and/or hair products. If you have recently dyed your hair, please wait a minimum of 3 weeks before collection or make sure hair has been washed at least 8-10 times. It is ideal to wait until the root has grown out and the hair sample is only untreated hair but we understand that this is not possible for everyone.
If you use Head and Shoulders, Selsun Blue, or any other anti-dandruff shampoo, please discontinue for 2 weeks prior to collection and note this on your submission form. If it is impossible to temporarily stop, please make sure to indicate use on the submission form.
Yes! Due to the fast oxidation rate typically seen in children, mineral loss and heavy metal accumulation are common concerns. A gentle mineral balancing protocol can be supportive for hyperactivity, anxiety, food sensitivities, etc.
Yes! If you are interested in working with me without testing, please email me and we can discuss options.
I am only able to order HTMA and blood labs for clients within the United States. For this reason, I do not currently work with clients outside of the country.
However, if you are interested in working with me without testing, please email me.
For individuals living in NY, NJ, or RI, I am not able to order a DUTCH Plus or GI-MAP test.
Yes! If you would like to work with me on a long-term basis, I offer follow-up visits where I can fine-tune and update your recommendations as well as offer additional support in implementation. We may also consider whether the GI-MAP, DUTCH Plus, Organic Acid Test, or other functional labs would be helpful at that time.
While I am able to order blood tests and interpret them from a functional perspective, I am not able to get them covered by insurance. For this reason, I recommend that my clients speak with their primary care provider before/while working with me to see if they are able to get the tests covered that way.
The tests I recommend are dependent upon your specific health concerns. However, I find the following to provide helpful information for clients:
